Low carbon offsite panelised construction was proposed for this airspace vertical extension of a 1930’s art deco residential block in North London.
Selected intrusive investigations in the vacant sections of the building allowed Devise to provide greater certainty to the Client of the feasibility of constructing two stories on top of the existing four storey block.
Clever distribution of load through the steel grillage on top of the exiting roof level resulting in the justification of the existing foundations without any strengthening works.
Brickslip panels have been proposed to clad the panelised timber walls to the upper floors helping to keep the new superstructure extension light whilst providing further programme savings.
