STREATHAM, LONDON
A sympathetic and contemporary remodelling and infill extension of this 1930’s art deco style house in Streatham, South London.
A simple timber framed solution was chosen to form the infill extension resulting in a lightweight low-embodied carbon superstructure.
Early investigations found that Thames Water Sewers were found to run through the site. An efficient beam and pier solution was implemented for the new foundations to bridge over the sewer, resulting in a significant reduction in concrete, cost and embodied carbon versus a traditional mass concrete solution.
